Ring of....Honor?

Looking back, I did a lot of things this past weekend. I’m almost amazed at how much I was able to do in such a short amount of time.

One thing I did that took only minutes, but was something I had been meaning to do for quiet some time, was call Suddenlink and order the remaining HD channels that I didn’t have. As of Saturday, I now have EVERY channel that Suddenlink offers. And I love it!

One of the big reasons I wanted this last block of channels added to my package was HDNet. They broadcast a wide variety of programming, all in high definition. Two programs that caught my eye the most was their vast Mixed Martial Arts telecasts, and Ring of Honor Wrestling.

I’ve read about ROH for years, and have heard wrestling fans gush and gush about how good their wrestling product is…so I had to check it out.

Now I have only seen one broadcast, but I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed. Granted, I am not familiar with a lot of the characters they have on their roster or the current storylines they present, but there wasn’t much there to captivate me to watch another episode.

The wrestling itself was OK, but nothing special. The production quality was mediocre at best. It reminded me of a secure indy federation….a little bit of a mix between your local indy and a slightly upscale original ECW.

Most of the guys didn’t look very spectacular. Now I’m not one who thinks wrestlers should have roided up bodies that look like they were chiseled from stone, but I think they should at least be in shape. Most of these guys were tiny, and looked like they ended their shift bagging groceries, threw on some cheap tights, and pretended to be professional wrestlers.

I’ll give it another shot, but I can’t help but to be disappointed in my first viewing. I expected much, much better.
